So...it will soon be time for the BAFTA Awards Ceremony 2012 with Leading Actress Nominees including; Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn) and Viola Davis (The Help). However, here at Lally’s Closet, it is Meryl Streep who played Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady that we are rooting for! This extraordinary film takes a look at the life of a very determined woman who managed to break through the boundaries of gender and class in order to be heard in a patriarchal society as the first female Prime Minister. Now, although we loved the film and everything it stood for...it is the 1980’s wardrobe that really caught our attention! As obvious vintage lovers we marvelled at the various outfits and accessories that Meryl Streep wore throughout the movie. From the famous blue wool suit to the gorgeous jewellery and array of hats – Meryl Streep took us on a journey of masculine-chic from the late 70’s to the very early 90’s. Lally’s Closet loves the Twilight Saga so...we were very excited when Breaking Dawn finally arrived (despite the fact that our dream husband (Robert Pattinson) marries another woman...he’ll come to his senses one day!). Although we are slightly bitter about the whole wedding scenario we admit that we saw the beautiful Bella Swan transform from a tom boy to a gorgeous feminine bride in her Carolina Herrera designed gown. We loved the lace detail on the back of the wedding dress and the sleek silhouette that the silk created against the backdrop of the beautifully designed venue, created by Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene). The stunning design doesn’t stop at the film though...if we head over to the London Premiere we see that Kristen Stewart graced us with her presence in a Roberto Cavalli floor length dress which oozed gothic chic, giving Kristen some new-found, red carpet confidence. She accessorised with an Alexander McQueen belt to make her tiny waist look even smaller…no wonder Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) can’t seem to keep his paws off her! This Autumn/Winter we are really embracing this gothic chic look that is sported by Kristen Stewart but, unfortunately we can’t all afford to splash out on Roberto Cavalli gowns. Don’t worry…Lally’s Closet has some really gorgeous black, lace dresses that are perfect for achieving the sexy vampire look. You never know – you might bag your own Edward Cullen?
